Barons End Regular Season With Loss
Washington Post --- The Dallas Barons ended an up and down regular season with yet another loss in the standings. After a five game winning streak that left the Barons poised for a first or second place finish, the Barons have dropped four straight games in a hitting drought that has seen only four runs in 32 innings of baseball. The bats have not produced and the team has been on tilt for the past couple of weeks. "Not sure what's up, we're just not playing good baseball. There's been a weird vibe in between the lines lately." said trusty three-bagger Mike Cohen.
The Barons lost again tonight, 4-1, to the first place Buffalo. The Barons scattered 7 hits, but left multiple runners stranded throughout the night. Pete Terrana finally got the Barons on the board in the top of the 6th inning with a laser to right field, scoring Jason Bottenfield.
The Buffalo scored four unearned runs off starting pitcher Travis Arbogast, with one in the first and three more in a dismal 3rd inning. Arbogast gave up only 5 hits in five innings of work, and was relieved by Bottenfield who pitched well.
The Barons have dropped to what looks to be a fourth place finish in the Open Division. A log jam at the top, coupled with the four straight defeats has left the Barons in a likely showdown with the Colt 45s in a Quarter Final best of three playoff series. "We were in pretty damn good shape about two weeks ago, with a potential first place finish. Things have been rough of late, and we now need to hit reset and get ready for the playoffs. The sticks need to come around. I think the layoff should help, and hopefully we can make a run." said staff ace Pete Terrana.
The Barons will receive word on the first round schedule in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates. Can the season be salvaged? Can the Barons turn the tide? "The 26 game regular season is doneski. We won about 60% of our games, even with the recent skid. We can beat any team in this league, and the reverse is true. It all comes down to who steps up in late August and September. I hope we pull it together. Our off the field dynamics have never been better, and our on the field play has honestly never been so bad. We're in an interesting position as a team. I still like our chances." said Arbogast. |
